Dear all; Based on this topic, i may have some comment on it. Please correct me if i'm wrong. It's just a sharing. Life is uncertain, that's is already known by all. There are 4 pairs of thing happen in our daily life, that's are 4 positive & 4 negative. The 4 positive is, happy, success, like by other & support. The 4 negative is versus those positive. It's call Lokadhamehi (pali word). These 8 item happen and ever changing in every second of our life. In this second we happy, but the sadness followed by our relative pass away. Business not always success, but there are failure as well, it happen so frequent. Some time you are the centre of all friends, but some thing happen, you may dislike by others. Today you may have full support from others, but you may also alone in your path without any support. So this is the uncertainty of life... But by knowing this happening is not meditate. It's just the reflection from your previous kamma, and the knowing of this reflection is very important for us to do right action in present time to prevent same occurance. So reflection to our daily life is not meditate. Meditate is focusing the occurance by mindfullness and concentration. Mindfull & concentrate at current object is called meditation. Refelction on issues that already happen is just reflection or thought/thinking but not meditate. Meditate did not think at the moment, but meditate is mindfull and concentrate at the moment of thing change. So, thinking and reflect on previous occurance is not develop mindfullness and concentration. Mindfullness and concentration mean: when we move forward, our mind knowing our foot moving forward; that's is mindfullness. And, when the foot is moving forward, then our mind is focus on certain point on that moving foot to know the moving from A to B without letting the focus point is called concentration. So, when we refelect on previous occurance, do we involve with mindfullness and concentration? If the answer is yes, then we can said reflection in concentration. Let give you a example; there are 2 new meditators gone for meditation retreat. Both of them are smoker. So, both of them went to ask permission from master to have a smoke. 1st meditator went in to the room of master and ask: Master, can i smoke during meditation, then his guy scored by master with answer "NO". Then 2nd meditator went to ask the master: he smilling with a smoke in his mouth after meet the master. The 1st meditator so surprise and ask his friend, why master allow you to smoke but i cant. His friend said: I ask master, can i meditate during smoking, then the master smile and said "YES" I think the answer is clear to differentiate reflection and meditation.
